The owner

No person picks a market’s answer. Some things still depend on the owner, and all of them are listed here.

The owner can

  • Pause. A pause stops new markets, buying and adding liquidity. Selling, removing liquidity, readings, settling, redeeming and voiding keep working, so a pause of any length cannot void a market or hold anyone’s collateral.
  • Approve and remove keepers.
  • Approve and remove resolvers, for new markets only.
  • Change the protocol and liquidity fees within their limits, for markets opened afterwards.
  • Change the creation fee.
  • Change the minimum time between readings, never below 60 seconds, for markets opened afterwards.
  • Withdraw the fees owed to Credos.

The owner cannot

  • Choose or change the outcome of any market.
  • Move traders’ or liquidity providers’ collateral. No such function exists.
  • Change the resolver, any fee, or the time between readings of a market that is already open.
  • Stop anyone from selling, settling, redeeming or claiming a refund, even while paused.

Keepers

Keepers are a trust assumption too. A keeper cannot choose the price it records, but it does choose the moment, so the owner is trusted to approve honest keepers.
